Mercy’s Volunteer Journey

My name is Mercy Shimwami, a graduate from the University of Zambia (UNZA) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, am also a Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) peer educator under Copper Rose Zambia (CRZ).
I joined CRZ during my second year of study at UNZA and this was driven by a conversation I had with my friends about the importance of getting involved in extracurricular activities while in school.
After having that conversation with my friends, I considered registering with the UNZA Response team-a group of university peer educators students-through which I received a call informing me to attend training with CRZ.
I was so excited when I received the phone call because I realized that my dream of engaging in extracurricular activities was coming to reality.
Being a part of a youthful organization such as CRZ has helped me step out of my comfort zone and broaden my scope of knowledge as well as experience.

There are members of staff at CRZ who have encouraged me to never give up and always do my best at every endeavor I take and this shows that CRZ has individuals who are goal driven and have a vision.
I have seen myself grow over the years because of the exposure and skills I have acquired at CRZ. I should say that it has been a blessing to be a part of the volunteers at CRZ. I’m definitely beautiful, valued and empowered.
My word of encouragement to young people especially those in school is that they should consider searching for voluntary opportunities which will help them learn and gain the necessary experience needed to build their career.
