Adolescent Health Day 2022

In Zambia, adolescents experience various challenges in accessing Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) information and services with distance, transportation  and lack of confidentiality being the most common barriers. To help adolescents make the right decision, Chipata sub-district two in Lusaka organised an awareness event to celebrate adolescent health on 9th September, 2022 at Mutambe grounds in Mandevu. We collaborated with them to commemorate this day under the theme “Increasing Youth Engagement At All Levels of National Development”. Adolescent Health day seeks to improve preventive services and increase awareness on Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and other illnesses that affect the health and well-being of young people. Copper Rose Zambia was delighted to have been in partnership with other stakeholders to make the event a success.

The day kicked off  with some beautiful speeches from  representatives at the Ministry of health and other partners in the ministry of health. During the speeches, it was highlighted that Adolescent Health is a unique stage of human development and an important time for laying the foundations of good health. It was  a great day to celebrate the health of young people who led the proceedings and dominated the audience. The young people shared poems and dances that depicted a healthy adolescent lifestyle.

“Adolescence is a period of life with specific health and developmental needs and rights. It is also a time to develop knowledge and skills in order to acquire attributes and abilities that will be important for enjoying the adolescent years and assuming adult roles,” Muchinga Mutambo, Head of Programs, Copper Rose Zambia. Copper Rose Zambia Zambia is very committed to supporting adolescent health  awareness events  in order to continue delivering quality Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights programmes.
