Olivia Tutu’s Volunteer Journey

My name is Olivia Tutu, I’m a 3rd year Business Administration with Economics student. I’m a peer educator, youth advocate, podcaster, content creator, and personal finance enthusiast. I draw my inspiration to do what I do from the younger me, because growing up I always had an idea of the type of life I wanted to live and how I wanted to give back to humanity. I realize that we all want to be loved and feel like we belong, and I have set out to give that to anyone I come into contact with. My aspiration in life is to live a life of impact. I want to impact everyone that comes into contact with me, because I love all people, regardless of who they are, I’m all about Ubuntu.

I joined Copper Rose Zambia in 2020 and that’s one of my highlights of that year. Copper Rose opened the door for me to impact the youths and just people in general. I’ve learnt to work with people from different walks of life and it has deepened my love for humanity and impact. I’ve learnt quite a lot from copper rose, from social media management to interpersonal skills and effective communication, plus I can now speak Nyanja fluently all thanks to the many outreaches we have done over the years. And I get to use what I have learnt to drive my life’s passions, one of them being content creation and financial literacy education.

And I’m now open about things that matter to humanity. I can talk about sex, HIV testing, contraceptives and all with my family and friends as openly as I can without feeling a certain type of way, and it feels good because I know that those around me, especially my friends and college mates are making informed decisions when it comes to their sexuality. I believe young people should take up voluntary work because it gives you the work experience you need and also connects you to a lot of opportunities and you can use it as a networking space as well as giving back to the community and creating impact.
